The Birth of a Rebellion (Tag: Warp, Shane, Alex, Ahsoka)

Ahsoka snapped to attention as Buzz called upon her. “I’ve been assigned to training duty, sir. I’m to help train the troops stationed on-ship.”

Buzz raised his eyebrows. “Really? Excellent. Congratulations, Commander.” He turned to his former partner. “Warp, what about you?”

"I was assigned security, along with some other guy I've yet to meet." Warp replied, his smug grin returning. "It's not a bad spot to be on the food-chain." He already knew of several different ways that he could cause havoc on the ship. It should be easy with his security clearances. "What'd you get, Buzzy-boy?"

Buzz stifled a groan—he knew that look in Warp’s eyes, and he knew exactly what Warp was thinking. He was going to have to keep a closer eye on his old partner—maybe Ahsoka could help.

At the question, Buzz let go of his informal air and made the instant transformation into a dignified, high-ranking officer. “I am replacing the captain of the Nexus. The Dictator believes that I will be able to astronavigate us quicker from planet to planet.”

Ahsoka’s eyes widened. “Captain of the Nexus?! Whoa. Sir…”

Buzz shook his head. “It’s only a privilege in that, the higher I rank, the more chance I have to thwart these people, Ahsoka. This is a highly sensitive task, and though I need to do it, I won’t enjoy it.”

"At this point anything any of us does is going to be a sensitive task." Warp sighed, his michieveous grin being replaced with all seriousness. "Not that any of us are going to enjoy our jobs, but then again, no one asked us to." Oh he was going to enjoy the part of his job that included doing things that were obviously off limits, the rest was...questionable.

Alex finally found where Shane was, and ran up to him. He noticed all the people that were around and quickly hid behind Shane's leg. He peeked out from behind and looked at them. "H-hi...." he looked up Shane. "Wh-what's going o-on?"

Shane's mouth pulled back into a slight smile as Alex ran up to him, his mood lightening instantly. He had been worried about the boy ever since he had dismissed himself and ran off to wherever. "Hey there." Shane rub his hand fondly over Alex's head. "We're just talking about...about the Dictator. None of us like him."

Alex smiled up at Shane, but his smile turned to a frown at the mention of the Dictator. "H-he's scary...." Alex said, burying his head in Shanes leg.

The young boy picked up his head, his black eye's staring at no one in particular. "He's....always watching..."

Shane sighed inwardly at Alex's reaction to his mention of the Dictator, and smiled sadly when the boy buried his head in his leg. "He's not here, Alex, and he can't see us right now. Not even with his security cameras." He gave the small head another reassuring pat. "Don't worry about him, okay?"

Shane felt as though he had tried, and failed miserably, to give Alex some sense of security. It wasn't what he was trained for, but he had to keep trying. He suddenly noticed that the meeting had paused and everyone was watching him interact with the boy. Slightly embarressed, Shane straightened and cleared his throat, giving his attention back to the matter at hand.

Ahsoka shook her head slightly as she watched Shane handle Alex. It was really pretty cute, and so totally at odds with Shane’s career—the dichotomy could hardly be more pronounced. Ahsoka found herself wondering if one side was stronger than the other, and if so, which one?

At Shane’s pained attempt to deflect attention from himself, Ahsoka smiled slightly and said, “Well… Shane? What kind of job did you get?”

"I got a mechanic slot." There was an evil glint in his eyes showing that he had little to no intention of keeping the ship running in a perfect order. He intentionally left out the part about his teaching Alex, only because he couldn't put in way that didn't sound like he was a glorified baby-sitter in his own mind.

Ahsoka’s own blue eyes lit deviously. “Oooo, I foresee sabotage in a certain ship’s future~!” She gave a rather wicked smile that revealed her more pointed teeth.

Buzz’s eyes lit also, but his with excitement. “Shane, that’s perfect! There’s a strong possibility that there’ll be times when I’ll be needing a convenient breakdown. I—okay, I’m going to need your comm number.”

Shane wiggled his eyebrows, mirroring Ahsoka's devious smile, glad that they still agreed on at least one thing. He turned to Buzz when the captain addressed him, obviously excited. "I think that a convenient breakdown or two could be arranged. ...My comm. number is 672242000x. And don't ask why there's an 'x' at the end."

Buzz raised an eyebrow, unable to keep a hint of a grin off his face. “Sorry, you said it, so now I have to ask. Why is there an ‘x’ at the end?”

Shane frowned, obviously not about to tell the captain what he wanted to know. Not because it was some huge secret, though it was to him, but because he didn't have to...that's what he had Warp for.

"Because," Warp smirked, addressing Buzz. "in Zurg's mind, an 'x' is one step down from a 'z'. Shane is still in training, barely, but still, he hasn't earned that level of respect from Big Z yet."

Buzz looked aside and smacked his forehead with his palm. “Good grief,” he muttered. “And it has to reflect in a comm number…” He shook his head and entered the number into his communicator.

“All right, and… let’s see—Ahsoka, I have your number… Warp, I have yours…” He looked up. “Okay, I knew this was going to be short. Anybody have anything else to say before we dismiss?”

Shane would've laughed had he not been desperately trying to keep his anger under wraps. The subject of whether or not he should still be in training was quite a sore spot between him and Warp. He had met all the requirements, and then some, ages ago and was frustrated that his boss wasn't giving him full credit for it. Of course, Warp knew this and found it greatly amusing and enjoyed bringing up the subject, if only to irritate is trainee.

"Nope," He managed to grind out, shooting Warp a hard look which was totally ignored. Fine then. I'll just ask Buzz about it.

Ahsoka raised a hand. “Captain… one of my COs once said that if we win before we know what to do with that victory, we’ve actually lost. So let’s say that we can take down Dic. What happens then?”

Buzz regarded Ahsoka with fresh respect. She was still a kid, but she was a kid growing into a young woman, and a fine woman at that. He collected his thoughts before answering. “Ahsoka, I’m afraid I’m not the kind of leader I think you’re used to. I’m a fighter, and while I hope for the best, I don’t always prepare for the worst. I don’t always think long-term.

“If we can take Dic down, all I can see us doing is finding some way to get everybody back home and do just that. If there are longer-term consequences, I can’t see them.”

"I think of something, or someone that might end up being a "longer-term" consequence." Shane stated rather suddenly. "I know there is at least one individual that we need to keep an eye on. He's about ten, I guess, and is a little taller than Alex. Appears to be a normal human kid, but I doubt that." He paused to take a breath. It was rare that he said more than three words together, unless he was delivering information. "There's just something strange about him."

Buzz frowned slightly. “The blond boy in the green suit?”
