"Tell me, boy," Jano asked, tapping Link on his shoulder before he blew another fireball in the direction of the Redead, "Why is it that you are in such a hurry?"
He pulled away for a moment, regarding the Redead as it began to stirr.
"This is the cave of bad dreams..." the eig then put, "And this - is just the overture!"

He floated back a little to let Link handle the rest and eventually nudged him.
The eig sure hoped that whatever treasure the kid would pick afterwards would be worth the trouble.

Link didn't understand what Jano meant, but it sounded a little ominous. Cave of Bad Dreams? He'd said it was a dream... so it was a bad one, a nightmare. Well, based on what Link had seen so far this didn't come as a surprise.

The boy hacked the Redead a few more times before stepping back, trying to get out of it's reach for when it woke. It was not going to be happy, and despite it's decomposing body, Redeads could move very fast.

The Redead suddenly regained motion, and continued to lumber towards Link. The boy was rather close, so it did not screech but instead jerked forward, trying to grapple its rotting arms on the hero's body. As it did so, it also opened its jaw and went in to bite on Link's head. Redeads were not really that complex in their attacking.

The Redead sprang on him before he'd managed to get far enough away and wrapped it's rotting arms around his neck, clamping is jar painfully on his head. Link struggled, trying to escape it's grasp as it started sucking his life-force out. Shadow Link had been right, dream or not, it really could hurt him!

(*Spirit is pressing all the buttons on the controller and screaming because it's a freaking Redead AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH*)

Jano merely remained where he was and watched the kid flailing. Eventually he couldn't contain himself and broke out in manic and wild giggles.

Many thoughts went through the Redead's simplistic mind as it gnawed on the boy's tender scalp. First and foremost was the taste of flesh and blood. For a Redead, this was a craving it could not get over; living flesh was just utterly irresistable. Most Redeads spent ages simply standing idly in a dungeon, waiting for a mortal to pass by. This Redead in particular did not know why it had been waiting in a building or how it got there because Redeads usually don't think much. However, it had enough brain capacity to sustain being latched on to Link; it was rather difficult to eat a person when they were flailing around in order to escape. Thus it held the young boy tightly in its arms as it continued to chomp away with its diseased teeth.

Jano by now, was lying on the floor as far as you could call it that way, smashing his fisted bone hands on the ground. Oh he hadn't had that much fun since... not even Rayman was that much fun!
Eventually he forced himself back up and whiped a tear from his eye.
"Oh, I like you kid. I like you!"

Munch Munch Munch

The Redead continued to chew on Link's head. By now, the redead had swallowed a bit of hair. It would cough that up later. Or maybe not. It didn't know; it was only a Redead. What else would you expect?

Link yelped in pain. He was pretty sure he could hear Jano laughing but it didn't matter at that moment. The only thing that mattered was getting away from this before it killed him. With a burst of strength the boy pried the monster's arms off him and rolled forward. Nimbly, he leapt back to his feet and turned to attack the Redead, swinging his sword at the monster.

The final slash of Link's blade re-killed the redead. It fell to the floor, removed of all un-life. Moments later, it turned into black smoke as it vanished. Left behind was the shell of its life: a heart. This heart was not organic, but a container of life force. It would heal those who took it.

Link watched as the monster's corpse (or really the corpse's corpse) vanished, leaving behind a recovery heart. The hero picked up the heart, and then turned to look at Jano. He decided to assume that the reason he'd been laughing was because there was no real threat here, but somewhere in the back of his mind he knew that wasn't true.

Link scanned their surroundings again, checking for anymore monsters. There was a castle at the end of the road. It looked run-down and abandoned, but still a castle is a logical place to keep a treasure.

"Is the game still on?" Link asked, feeling a renewed sense of adventure and competitiveness now that he had his strength back from the recovery heart.

Jano calmed himself to mere chuckles and forced himself to take a deep breath.
"Of course," he answered Link's question and set his eyes upon the castle in the distance, Link was currently paying all of his attention too, with a remarkable determination.
"When the game is over, you'll notice by yourself."


Meanwhile outside of the cave Jano had deemed it would be too bad if Link were to wake up any second so he had given him some earplugs...
and drew stuff on his face to look funny.
